HireMee Plant Hire

Established in 1976 by Chris Brodie the company operated out of Stanstead Abbotts at 24 High Street. The workshop and plant storage was at Home farm on the Hunsdon Road.

The High Street shop transferred to Marsh Lane, ware, in 1996 but shortly after that the recession caused a slump in the building industry.

HireMee had invested a lot of money in railway maintenance equipment and relied on the general building and DIY trade to help subsidize the repayments.

Chris Brodie died in 2002, aged about 52, and the recession in the building trade continued and the company finally went into the hands of the receiver in 2011.

I worked as a fitter for HireMee for 13 years until 1996.
