Stanstead Abbotts local history
This village has a thousand years of history and its story is constantly unfolding. Yet, if we are not careful, our history will be lost(perhaps never even properly captured) and this has led one or two of us to explore the idea of creating a local history group for the village. Such a group might bring together what is known about the village; develop local history projects with schools, business and other interested groups and be a place where people can get information or share items of village history in their possession. Our aim would be to ensure our history is part of our community life. So this is an invitation to all readers who might be interested in the idea to get in touch.
You may have family photos of the village; old letters or documents that have been passed down or even memories of the village from your childhood, which might be recorded as part of our village history. You may know people ‘who know a lot about the village’ who you could put us in touch with; you may even be prepared to get together with me to establish a local history group to develop these ideas.
